• Poverty has a significant cost for governments. The federal and Ontario government are losing at least $10.4 billion to $13.1 billion a year due to poverty, a loss equal to between 10.8 to 16.6 per cent of the provincial budget.
• Poverty has a cost for every household in Ontario. In real terms, poverty costs every household in the province from $2,299 to $2,895 every year.• Poverty has a very significant total economic cost in Ontario. When both private and public (or social) costs are combined, the total cost of poverty in Ontario is equal to 5.5 to 6.6 per cent of Ontario’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The cost of poverty is reflected in remedial, inter generational, and opportunity costs.
• The remedial costs of poverty related to health care and crime are substantial. In Ontario, poverty-induced costs related to health care have an annual public cost of $2.9 billion. The national added cost to health care budgets is much greater, at $7.6 billion per year. The poverty-induced costs related to crime in Ontario have a relatively small annual public cost of $0.25 to $0.6 billion, split between federal and provincial governments.
• The annual cost of child or inter generational poverty is very high. If child poverty were eliminated, the extra income tax revenues nationally would be between $3.1 billion and $3.8 billion, while for Ontario, the additional (federal and provincial) taxes would amount to $1.3 billion to $1.6 billion. The total economic cost (private and social) of child poverty Ontario is $4.6 to 5.9 billion annually.
• Opportunity costs or lost productivity due to poverty has a great economic cost. Federal and provincial governments across Canada lose between $8.6 billion and $13 billion in income tax revenue to poverty every year; in the case of Ontario, Ottawa and Queen’s Park lose a combined $4 billion to $6.1 billion.

Why does the government pay $40-$60 for a bed in a shelter per night, when the same person could be given welfare and the cost to the government would be $18 per night?
THE LIBERAL CONSPIRACY
-----------------------
The United Way, a bleeding heart liberal organization operates under the guise of helping poor people when their actual intentions are far more malicious.
When the government pays you welfare, it comes out of the government's pocket. When the government pays for a shelter bed, the United Way absorbs much of the cost.
The United Way, another United Nations front organization, of the same United Nations that appoints people from such countries as Libya to head the UN Security Council, knows that by operating a bloated, inefficient, jungle-rule shelter system machine, promotes death and decay as opposed to operating a feasible, well-rounded, and fiscally sound welfare system.
Not once when I was on welfare, did they send inspectors to my basement room to see if I was trying to defraud the system. "PLEASE", I thought to myself, "SEND inspectors so you can know the true misery I am living in and maybe then you'll stop harassing me each month as I have to battle for my check!"
Then they have no problem giving the $250 needs allowance to crackheads and alcoholics in the downtown core, along with the United Way's shelter contributions of course. Come everyone, from all parts of the world to the downtown core. Mind you, before I lived in the absolute most hellish of hells there, I had previously rarely set foot in Toronto.
Oh, and now the businessmen in rich York Region are always complaining about this and this and how this or that is ruining their profits. NOT ONE shelter or agency between Steeles Avenue North, where York Region Begins, all the way up to Newmarket, some three hours away.
But to put up advertisements for a bus service (Who ADVERTISES a bus service, it's like advertising eggs and milk. Why not advertise air, while they're at it), for this they have money.
Once again, like Mike Harris' sale of Highway 407 to a Spanish Monarch, the fraudulent conservative/liberal paradigm powers-that-be have once again executed Orwellian chicanery out in the open.
Don't forget that the liberals in Germany during the holocaust were just as malicious as the conservative German MPs when it came to concentration camps.
Instead of Canadians uniting to defeat the cause of their problems, westernized Canadians are seeking refuge in their corrupt unions, and chastising their fellow Canadians as being "welfare bums" when they dare to ask for some money from the public coffers.
When Canada bought 80 Billion dollars worth of defective submarines from England, they didn't raise any concern.
But when I go to the welfare office and ask for subsistence money, I am harangued and treated with the utmost disrespect and anti-Semitism. Frasier Institute Shill Sue-Ann Levy's comments in the Toronto Sun against welfare were particularly upsetting to me, as I sat and read her daily onslaught against bloodsucking by the poor when I would sit by the food lounge after we had been kicked out of the shelter at 7:20am.
Mind you, I will never repeat my mistake of going there, and I will never go to the welfare office again.
In 100 years or so, when society will see what it has lost, then they will backtrack, but it will be too late.
Instead of increasing immigration status quotas, removing essential protectionisms, importing hostile cultures/religions into our countries and giving them their own TV shows all for the sake of a few tyrants, let's concentrate our efforts into finding a way to protest the present wrong that is being perpetuated on a daily basis to Canada's real poor and downtrodden.
Vanities come and go, righteousness and truth are eternal.
Thanks for taking the time Moishe.
Just a little someting to make you feel better.

$32.22 Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) PER DAY 2008
$18.06 Ontario Works (OW) PER DAY 2008
Could you imagine the money that would be saved and spent helping those that are poor if they spent $18.06 per day on keeping someone in jail.

The response to Moishe's post showing the cost of poorly run poverty industry programs compared to perhaps, giving people more money into their pockets, is a good one ... these stats should be sent to every editor of every daily newspaper in the province. Thanks again.
